Disposing of Dead Animals and Offal

Small Round Bales For Compost Material

Farm animals die unexpectedly of death and disease. Butchering leaves the innards and other unusable parts. During fair weather animals and offal can be buried, but what about when the ground is frozen under two feet of snow? Composting is a simple solution. It is so simple that we use it year round.
It is important to follow your state’s regulations for composting farm animals. We make sure the animal is far from our well and cover it with hay. Never underestimate how much hay it will take to prevent strong odors. It took an entire 450# bale of hay to cover one adult ewe. There was no odor and no wild animals were attracted to the corpse
