How to Knit Spiral Tube Socks
Fits Ladies shoe size 5-6. For a larger size, cast on more stitches (in multiples of three) and knit a longer sock.
Looks complicated, but is a very easy pattern to follow.
Knit in the round on 3 double point needles.
A word about wooly nylon. There is nothing worse than spending time knitting a pair of warm, wool socks only to have the heel area wear thin before the winter is through. The wooly nylon helps prevent this and makes the sock more durable. I don’t always knit it into the entire sock but add it once I’m past the cuff and close to the foot area.
7 oz worsted weight wool yard
4 size 4 double point needles
1. Cast on 42 stitches. Divide onto 3 needles (14 stitches per needle).
Knit the Wooly Nylon along with the wool yarn. Mark beginning of round with marker. Work knit 3, purl 3 for about 25 rounds.
2. Begin spiral pattern by knitting the first 2 stitches. Next increase 1 stitch by knitting into the 3rd stitch twice. Purl 2. You now have 43 stitches. From this point on work in a knit 3, purl 3 until the sock measures about 14″. In the last round decrease by knitting 2 stitches together (tog) at any point. You now have 42 stitches.
3. Decrease for Toe:
Round 1: Knit 4, decrease 1 by knitting 2 tog. Repeat to end of round
Round 2 and all Even rows: Knit all the way around.
Round 3: Knit 3, knit 2 tog. Repeat to end of round.
Round 5: Knit 2, knit 2 tog. Repeat to end of round.
Round 7: Knit 1, knit 2 tog. Repeat to end of round.
Round 9: Knit 2 tog. Repeat to end of round.
Fasten off and weave ends in.
